Chicken Bhalti

Takeaway style Chicken Bhalti

Recreate that ‘restaurant/takeaway curry taste’ in your home kitchen.

Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 1 portion of Mr Curry Lover’s Grilled Chicken
  • 1 portion of Basic Curry Sauce
  • 3 tbls sunflower/vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp extra hot chilli powder
  • 1 tbls garam masala
  • 1 tbls cumin
  • 1 tbls sugar
  • pinch of red food colouring (optional, makes no difference to the flavour)
  • 1/2 chopped fried onion
  • 1/2 roughly chopped fried green pepper
  • large handful of chopped fresh coriander


Part 1 (The Marinade)

Part 2 (The Base Sauce)

Part 3 (The Curry)

  • Mix together the ground spices, sugar & salt
  • In a saucepan or wok heat the oil on a medium heat
  • Add the mixed spices and quickly stir for about 30 seconds (don’t allow the spices to burn)
  • Add a batch of Mr Curry Lover’s Base Curry and stir for 1 minute
  • Add the optional food colouring
  • Add the chopped  fried onions and fried green pepper & coriander
  • Add the Chicken that you prepared earlier using the instructions from Mr Curry Lover’s Grilled Chicken and continue cooking for about 5 minutes on a medium heat stirring often.
  • Serve and enjoy

Milder: If everyone wants it milder add more tomato pasata.
Hotter: If everyone wants it hotter add extra chilli powder.  If some but not all people want it hotter add some chopped fresh chillies when served
